That means real ownership on your first project, and no department to hand a problem to. It also means the week is sometimes uneven.
Careers at Susten
Most HVAC jobs in Malaysia are about installing someone else's chiller.
This one isn't. We design our chillers to the building's real load and Malaysia's climate, and we write the PLC logic ourselves rather than buying a controls package. Then we are paid a share of the energy that plant saves, every month, for the next twelve to fifteen years. If the engineering is wrong, we carry it, not the client. That is the whole reason the work is interesting, and the whole reason it is demanding.
The work
Four plants. 5,000 RT. Nobody here is far from any of it.
Our sites run from a 500 RT plant in a hypermarket to a 3,000 RT centralised system cooling a shopping mall and an adjoining office tower, one of the largest of its kind in the country. Thousands of sensors per site feed our own cloud energy management system.
Our system will tell you a chiller is drifting. It will not tell you why. That part is the job.
Give it a year on a plant like that and you will know it better than anyone else in the building: how it behaves on a quiet Tuesday and on the hottest Saturday of the year, what each machine sounds like before it gives you trouble, and what the data says before anyone else notices. That is an uncommon thing for an engineer to own this early.

Office roles get two days a week at home. Plants do not.
Site roles include occasional night work, and some sites run five days across a Monday-to-Saturday roster.
Nothing goes into a building without a senior engineer's signature on it.
What we cannot teach is the instinct to go and look at the machine.

Candor. Say the true thing, especially when it costs.
Ownership. Owners, not renters. If you see a problem it is yours.
Measured, not promised. Claims are cheap and the meter is not.
Design, don't default. We build for the real building, real load and real climate.
Waste is the enemy. Wasted energy, money and time is the reason the company exists.
And one rule above them: fast where we can correct, certain where we cannot. No speed at all in the plant room.

The engineer on the ground at a 3,000 RT centralised plant cooling a shopping mall and an adjoining office tower. Run the plant day to day, chase down what the EMS flags, and write the monthly performance report. We are paid on measured savings, so the measurement is not admin. Fresh graduates and experienced engineers both welcome.
